Renowned Lalon Geeti singer Farida Parvin performed at Manikganj Baul Mela last Tuesday evening. Mother Foundation, a local organisation held the five-day (January 1-5) event at Manikganj Government High School playground.
Parvin performed for three hours at a stretch. About 7,000 people enjoyed her renditions of songs of mystic Lalon Fakir. Gazi Abdul Hakim accompanied her on flute.
The organisation also accorded her a grand reception and presented her with a crest, sari, nakshi kantha and flowers.
This was followed by popular Baul singers Tarabali Dewan and Taposhi Akter singing Pala Gaan till 11:30 pm.
Earlier, a discussion was held where Jahid Maleque Swapan, local lawmaker, was present as chief guest.
Md. Romzan Ali, Mayor of Manikganj Municipality and chief adviser of Mother Foundation, presided over the discussion. Dr. Nasiruddin Ahmed, chief executive officer of Zila Parishad; Ashim Kumar Das, general manager of Manikganj Palli Bidyut Samity; Afroza Romzan, president and Zahangir Alam Biswas, general secretary of the Mother Foundation, addressed the gathering.
